Artist's Description

The interior of the Roman Colosseum in Rome, Italy.

The Roman Colosseum is where Gladiators once lived. They were usually slaves, prisoners of war or condemned criminals, and usually men. The attendees were rich and poor, and the Emperor himself, loved to attend. These contests were bloodbaths since the grounds were generally soaked in blood!

The Roman Colosseum was originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre. Although pronounced the say was, it's often spelled as Coliseum, but, in Italy it's referred to as Colosseo. It's a huge, practical design ellipse structure that was commissioned by Emperor Vespasian in AD 72 and completed by Titus, his son, around AD 80.

It's located just east of the Roman Forum. It has 80 arched entrances which could easily allow for quick access to approximately 55,000 guests or commonly referred to as spectators. The spectators were seated according to their social standing or ranking.

About Donna Proctor

Donna Proctor

DONNA PROCTOR FINE ART * * * * * * * * Fine art painter who also loves to shoot photography of wild life, nature and sometimes just things ... I am inspired by the beauty I see in every day life. My work is of the moment. What it was yesterday, what it is today and what it will be tomorrow is just a marker en-route to artistic self-expression. Personal expression is a life-long journey of joy, doubt, disappointment, celebration, challenges and so... With each new painting or photograph artists always feel like they could have done more, could have done it better but that's what drives us forward and lifts us to higher levels and, the best we can do is just leave behind our own personal signatures...
