Description
This baby orangutan's eyes and expression said it all for me. A tender moment between a mother orangutan and her young.
Orangutans are remarkably similar to humans in terms of anatomy, physiology, and behavior. They have tremendous strength, that enables them to hang upside down for long periods of time. They do this to retrieve fruit and eat young leaves.
Interestingly, while in captivity, both Bornean and Sumatran orangutans can breed together and produce healthy offspring . . . however, this practice has been banned in zoos across the USA.
