The very large and beautiful Komodo dragon which is also known as the Komodo monitor. This species of lizard is found in the Indonesian Islands. They are massive in size with flat heads, bowed legs and long, thick tails. Their name comes from rumors that a dragon-like creature lived on the Indonesian island of Komodo.
Komodo dragons are the largest living lizards in the world. They come in many different colors - orange, blue, green and gray. According to The Smithsonian, the largest verified Komodo reached a length of 10.3 feet and weighed 366 pounds. They state that their weight may have included a substantial amount of undigested food. Typically, weights for the largest wild dragons are about 154 pounds!
Komodo dragons can briefly run up to 13 mph and they locate their prey through their strong sense of smell, even though they can see to around 1,000 feet. Just like snakes, they smell with a split or forked-tongue. They smell their prey through their tongue.....
